Cups get into full swing with some surprising results
The Bromley and South London Cups got going in earnest on the same day that the London Junior Cup had its round one. There were mixed results in the London Cup, as Matagalpa squeezed past Eltham Eagles on penalties, after a 3-3 draw. Crofton Albion went down, narrowly, to Long Lane, 2-3. Progressing through are OLAHM, who smashed AFC Lewisham 5-0 and Agenda, who beat Together United 3-0. So Matagalpa, OLAHM and Agenda progress, joining Beckenham, Catford, Russellers and South Dulwich, who received byes into round 3.
In our league cups, the Queen Mary saw Eden Park brush aside Beckenham 7-0, George Montague with a hat-trick. Eltham Town edged past South Dulwich 3-2 in a battle of two league heavyweights and Bexley A beat London Legends 4-2. In the Elizabeth Jaques, Standard Ballers set their stall out as potential winners with a strong 9-2 win against Red Velvet Reserves, as Bradley Hutcheson and Ibrahim Mohamed both hit hat-tricks.
In league action, the John Cooper Premier Division saw a shock, as early pace-setters, West Wickham Albion were beaten 3-2 by Russellers. Falconwood got back to winning ways in a 5-2 victory over Catford, Dejuarn Gayle-Kirby with two.
In the Jim Hampson Division Two, Chelsfield suffered a heavy defeat, 0-6, at the hands of a rampant Sporting Club Beckenham, benefitting from being a team getting some sleep nowadays. In the other game, Red Velvet Reserves narrowly defeated GroundHoppers 4-3.
In the Richard Ayling Division Three, a hat-trick from Gabino Blaya helped Atletico Londres to a 6-2 win against All Starz Spartans United. Bexleyheath Lions shared a 2-2 draw with Nat West Bank and Main Road suffered a heavy defeat in their first league match, losing 0-9 to Stansfeld A, for whom David Offeh scored four.
