Meridian stay top of the Premier as BASLFL sides win impressively in outside cups - 20/10/18

The outside cup competitions allow BASLFL sides to see how they match up to teams in other leagues and they did the league proud today. In the Beckenham Hosptials Cup, Red Velvet 'A' hosted Division Two West Kent County side, Crayford Arrows and beat them 2-0Ozz Hassan and Gary Wolard with the goals. West Bromley Albion also played a Division Two West side, Metrogas Reserves, and beat them 4-3, the goals shared between Junior Adeniyi, Richard Fowler, Mada Mbewe and Jamal Gray.

In the Queen Mary Cup, Cray Wanderers pulled off the shock of the round, beating Greenwich Borough U23s by 3 goals to 2, despite the best efforts ofDikasi Misima Anoma, who scored both Greenwich Borough goals. Manager Marton Saranyi was typically gracious in his assessment of the game, stating that they were "beaten fair and square by a really good Cray Wanderers Community side." Old Roan of Division One also surprised Premier Division opposition, beating Kingsdale 7-1, Ellissee Green and Terry Stark with braces. Teviot Rangers continued their impressive start to the season by also upsetting higher-placed opponents, although they needed penalties to overcome Lewisham Athletic, after a tense 1-1 draw. Another match that went to penalties, was between Slade Green Knights and Russellers, with Russellers edging it 5-4 after a 1-1 draw in normal time led to an exciting 3-3 finish after extra-time.

Back to league action, and Meridian continued their impressive run at the top of the table in the John Cooper Premier Divison. They ran out 6-1 winners against Eden Park Rangers, with Abdulkadri Hafeez again the main man, scoring twice. Wickham Park remain hot on their heels, winning 5-2 against FC Greenwich. Eltham Town also picked up another win, 2-1 away at Frazier.

On to the Jim Hampson Division One and with Cray Wanderers Community in cup action, there was a chance to close the gap at the top of the table. River Plate are keen on the chase, winning 7-2 against Lewisham Lions, hot-shot TJ Kode scoring two, along with Jordan Ogunde. Elsewhere, Beckenham got their first win and clean-sheet of the campaign with an impressive 5-0 win over Erith and Belvedere Reserves, Jai Perkins bagging 4 goals.

In Division Two, Farnborough are chasing the leaders South Dulwich. They were 4-1 at half-time against Bosco Falcons, by the second half was a tighter affair, with them running out 5-3 winners, Eddie Figg scoring twice. Crofton Albion stay in contention at the top of the table, after beating Eden Park 5-3, with Daniel McCaughan and Danny Steele both getting two. Eltham Eagles edged out Ground Hoppers 5-4, in a classic encounter, full of drama. Reggie Oliver was the match-winner, with two goals. Welling Town A also won impressively, 3-0 away to New Russellers.

In Division Three, with the leaders again in cup action, this time Teviot Rangers, there was an opportunity for others to close the gap. Welling Park Reserves took the opportunity, winning 3-0 against Latter-Day Saints, Liam George with two. AWS also won, 5-3 against Charlton Athletic Deaf, with George Rippley and Aaron Smith both scoring twice. Seven Acre Sports will rue missed chances in their 2-2 draw with Dulwich Village Reserves. Wickham Park Reserves continued their recent revival, running out 4-2 winners away to Old Roan Reserves. Elsewhere, Bosco Reserves recorded their first win, 6-4, against the 10-men of new boys, South East Athletic A.
