Meridian take top spot on County Cup Weekend - 13/10/18
The big news in the John Cooper Premier Division on 13th October was the victory for Meridian that saw them rise to the top of the table for the first time this season. Taking advantage of others being in cup action, they ran out 3-2 winners away at Eltham Town. It was a keenly fought match, which was decided by a brace from Abdulkadri Hafeez. Red Velvet 'A' kept up their 100% winning record, with a 3-0 away victory over Eden Park Rangers. The other matches in the Premier Division saw FC Greenwich draw 1-1 with Frazier, who surprised everyone by managing to field 4 substitutes! Kingsdale's tough start to the season continued with a 3-1 loss to Wickham Park.
In the Jim Hampson First Division Cray Wanderers continued their 100% record, with a late winner seeing them beat Farnborough OBG 3rds, 3-2. With Old Colfeians and Eltham Town Reserves still with 100% records, this division looks like being a cracker. River Plate are in 4th, and their impressive start to the season continued with a 5-3 win over Beckenham. Beckenham are averaging two goals a game, but their problem is shipping goals at the other end of the pitch. Erith and Belvedere Reserves and Old Roan are still looking for their first wins, after sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Pierre Ndekey with a double for the Deres.
In Division Two, South Dulwich overtook Farnborough OBG 4ths at the top of the table, after a very impressive 6-1 win against their rivals. Rob Seaborne smashed a hat-trick to take himself to six goals for the season. Welling Town A are up to 3rd, after an impressive win of their own, 6-2 against Eltham Eagles. Christian Udo got two before substituteToochukwu Olayinka scored a hat-trick. Ground Hoppers are in 4th, after beating Crofton Albion 5-2. Eden Park are got back to winning ways after their thumping at the hands of South Dulwich. They won 6-3 away to New Russellers, thanks to a hat-trick from James Hunter.
Teviot continue to set the standard in Division 3. They won a tight game against Latter-Day Saints, 4-2, with two late goals securing the victory, Dolapo Sano scoring two more, taking his tally to 6 in 4.Jeremy Owusu-Ansah scored again for Latter-Day Saints and leads the scoring charts with 8 goals. Seven Acre Sports are hot on the heels of the leaders, another win for them, 2-0 against Wickham Park Reserves. 3rd place is occupied by Welling Park Reserves, who overtook 4th placed AWS with a tight, 3-2 victory, Steve Hudson with a brace. South East Athletic 'A' made it two wins out of two, with a 3-2 victory over Slade Green Knights. Charlton Athletic Deaf had the biggest win of the weekend, running out 8-3 victors over Bosco Reserves. Dulwich Village Reserves recorded their first league win, 3-1 against Old Roan Reserves, Rafi Pavez-Hind with a hat-trick.
In the Ron Pope Cup, Premier Division Greenwich Borough U23s beat Lewisham Lions 4-1, Kenneth Lemchi with a hat-trick, to take him to 6 goals in 4 games.
In the County Cups the BASLFL teams did not fare too well. In the London Cup there were losses for Eltham Town Reserves 2-6, against West Fulham, Bosco Academy 0-3 against Turk Ocagi Bermondsey and Russellers 1-3 against HFSP Ten Em Bee. In the Kent Cup it was better news, as Old Colfeians continued their impressive early-season form, with an 11-0 win against Orpington Reserves.
